Nathalie Demme
PhD candidate in the Computer Vision Group, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Friedrich Schiller University Jena
Nathalie is a PhD candidate in the Computer Vision Group at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, where she works on medical image segmentation and classification using deep federated learning. Her research focuses on developing machine-learning methods that can support medical applications while enabling collaborative analysis across distributed datasets.
Before starting her PhD, Nathalie completed an M.Sc. in Bioinformatics at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, following a B.Sc. in the same field. During her master’s studies, she investigated the automatic classification of sleep phases in preterm infants using machine learning. This work built on her previous experience as a research assistant in the BioImaging Group at University Hospital Jena, where she developed algorithms for extracting clinically relevant information from sleep data.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of bioinformatics, medical AI, and machine learning, with a particular focus on federated learning, time-series analysis, and applied machine and deep learning. Through her interdisciplinary background, Natalie combines computational methods with biomedical data to develop AI approaches for challenging clinical applications.
