Sven Sickert
Postdoctoral Researcher in the Computer Vision Group, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Friedrich Schiller University Jena

Sven is a researcher and lecturer at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, where he has been a member of the Computer Vision Group since 2013. Alongside his research activities, he serves as a Lecturer and Study Program Coordinator for Computer Science, contributing to the education and coordination of computer science studies at the university. His research focuses on 3D point cloud analysis, representation learning, and medical image understanding. He is particularly interested in developing machine-learning methods that can extract meaningful information from complex and unstructured 3D data. From 2019 to 2022, he led the research team Learning from 3D and Unstructured Data, investigating approaches for learning effective representations from challenging data modalities. Sven completed his PhD at Friedrich Schiller University Jena in 2018 with a thesis on semantic segmentation of 3D data using contextual cues. His academic background in computer science began at the same university, where he completed his Diploma with a focus on image processing and computer vision. His diploma thesis explored strategies for active learning. Through his combination of research, teaching, and study programme coordination, Sven contributes to advancing computer vision research while supporting the education of the next generation of computer scientists.
