ELLIS PhD candidate* at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry Jena and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems

Nikos jointly based at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (Department of Empirical Inference) and the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry (Department of Biogeochemical Integration), supervised by Prof. Dr. Bernhard Schölkopf and Prof. Dr. Markus Reichstein. His PhD research focuses on developing machine learning models built for interventions and counterfactual reasoning, with current work on causal modeling and causal inference for land–atmosphere processes and land cover/land use change. Nikos research interests include simulation-assisted machine learning, causal modeling, and their application to environmental decision-making and policy.
